2019 SVB State of the Wine Industry
Report & Videocast
Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. PT or 12:30 p.m. ET
The wine business is changing. You can feel it, even if you can't quantify it. Before you plan out sales and marketing for 2019, you will want to tune-in and discover what's taking place, because there were surprises I didn't expect when I started researching this year.
I'm releasing the 2019 Annual State of the Wine Industry Report on Wednesday the 16th and from my seat, think it's the most important report I've ever penned. We are at a clear point of consumer change that is going to require an answer and response from the wine industry. Doing the same thing you are doing today is going to deliver sub-optimal results over the next 5 years.
With my studio guests, we hope to enlighten the audience, animate the report findings and start the dialogue leading to change in the way we are selling wine.
Please join me alongside Amy Hoopes, president of Wente Family Estates; Paul Mabray, CEO of Emetry; and Dale Stratton, vice president of commercial insights at Constellation Brands, in a live videocast and presentation of the annual Silicon Valley Bank State of the Wine Industry Report.
Live video attendance gets you the opportunity to chat with other attendees around the world and ask questions of the panel. We will address some questions live, and will have a follow-up broadcast of many of the questions we don't get to during a subsequent, tape-delayed videocast.
The panel will discuss and debate the following topics:
- Changing consumer demand for wine — who's buying and who isn't
- Cannabis — it's present and future impact on wine consumers
- The import invasion
- Fatigue with direct-to-consumer strategies in the tasting room and club models
- New bar concepts driving the consumption patterns of young consumers
- Growth opportunities and threats in the next five years
- Much more

Amy Hoopes is the president of Wente Family Estates. She was promoted to this position from the position of executive vice-president and chief marketing officer, where she oversaw all global marketing and sales operations for the family-owned wine portfolio including Wente Vineyards, Entwine, Murrieta's Well, Double Decker, and Hayes Ranch, as well as for the lifestyle operations, The Course, The Restaurant and the Concerts at Wente Vineyards. By combining the sales and the marketing operations, Ms. Hoopes is heading a long-term brand-driven sales strategy with the ultimate goal of positioning Wente Family Estates as the most respected family-owned winery in the world. Ms. Hoopes joined Wente Family Estates in 2007 as vice president of Marketing with the primary goal of streamlining the company’s overall brand strategy and portfolio.
Paul Mabray has been a powerful change agent in the wine industry for over twenty years. He began his career working in traditional three-tier sales and marketing with Napa Ale Works and later innovating direct-to-consumer sales and marketing models with Niebaum Coppola. Since then, he has been at the forefront of all major digital trends for the wine industry, working with WineShopper.com and Wine.com when they entered the wine-digital space. He founded two companies that have significantly changed the US wine landscape for digital. First by introducing winery e-commerce with Inertia Beverage Group that transformed into WineDirect.com pioneering winery e-commerce and then again introducing social media and social customer relationship management with VinTank.com. He is considered the wine industry’s foremost futurist and thought leader, harnessing the power and potential of digital tools and methodologies to move the industry into the future.
